So what's the point of #gocircularnow?

Updated: Mar 4, 2019

We know what you’re thinking - ‘What is this website and why is it interrupting my day and asking me to #gocircularnow? As a matter of fact, what does that even mean? I’ve got things to do, I don’t need any more distractions’.

Well, firstly, if there’s one thing we definitely understand it’s that we’re all living incredibly busy lives. In between getting the kids to school, paying the mortgage, going to work on time and remembering to call your sick grandmother, you have enough to deal with.

And that’s exactly why #gocircularnow is relevant and necessary. We all know that sustainability and trying to do our best for the planet’s future is important, but often it feels like an overwhelming problem to solve that’s detached from our daily existence.

#gocircularnow wants to join the dots between what’s going on in the world of sustainability and the circular economy, and link it back to your everyday life.

The circular economy is a system that helps businesses and consumers to better manage and get the most from our resources. It’s a way of operating that promotes conscious and profitable business, while giving consumers great products and services that enable them to live sustainably. Win, win.

For a brief overview on the circular economy, watch the short animated film beautifully put together by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

We want to make circularity feel useful to you, and simple to incorporate in your life in practical ways. Frequently, it will be as easy as choosing one of the many great circular brands we’ll highlight here, or messaging your favourite brand encouraging them to go circular while continuing to make the products you love.

The time has passed where brands get to make sustainability your problem as a result of you buying their goods.

#gocircularnow is a campaign that will give you the means and the information to demand more as a consumer, putting the burden of responsibility on to brands to make it easier for you to do the right thing. It will also encourage brands to push towards greater circularity.

Brands need to rethink their design and manufacture processes and customer care systems to positively influence the outlook of the planet. It’s an initiative that’s long overdue. The time has passed where they get to make sustainability your problem as a result of you buying their goods.

The circular economy has already gained a lot of momentum at business level, and there are lots of great initiatives being discussed by people involved in the sustainability world.

But, it’s time that conversation filtered down to consumers and was talked about in terms that make it feel like a realistic way of operating, not an ideal only affordable to people with a high level of disposable income. This is where we come in.

You have much more power than you know.

Joining the conversation in getting more brands to #gocircularnow means you get to shape the way business and organisations operate. You can encourage them to create better products and services, reduce waste and implement systems that give you the best possible means for conscious consumption, making sustainability their problem, not yours.

We’ll help out by posting all things circular here, and bring them to your attention via our feeds on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

We can’t wait to hear what you have to say. Let’s do this. Let’s #gocircularnow
